W.
Tyrrell
April 21, 1939 - March 5, 2014
Born in Antigo, WI
Resided in North Scituate, RI
Ronald W. Tyrrell is no longer living in this physical world. He has completed his transition & is now back home... the home none of us ever really leaves... our forever home.
Ronn was born in Antigo, Wisconsin to Eva & Jerry Tyrrell. He has a younger sister, Karen, who lives in California. He is predeceased by both parents; his first wife, Judy Johnson of Minneapolis, their first child, Tammy; and their youngest son, Adam. He has three remaining adult children: Amy Corrigan, Ty Tyrrell, and Kit Tyrrell. He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Pam Gregory of N. Scituate, Rhode Island.
Ronn was a man of many talents. He learned the art of baking in his cousin's bakery in Wisconsin, and spent one year at the Pillsbury School of Baking in Minneapolis. Then he decided he really didn't want to work from 3am - 3pm. So he transferred to broadcasting school in Minneapolis. Upon graduation he went to work for KCCI radio station in Carroll, Iowa where he worked as the chief broadcaster and chief engineer for 27 years. He was adept at solving problems with the transmitter at the radio station, and was often called back from family vacations because no one else could fix it.
On September 21, 1987 Ronn married Pam Gregory, the then newly ordained Episcopal priest at a small mission congregation in Carroll, Iowa. Shortly after they married, Ronn quit work at the radio station and became a full-time college student. He started at Des Moines Area Community College, Carroll Campus. When he and Pam moved to Loves Park, Illinois, he continued his studies at Rockford Community College, then completed his B.A. degree at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois. He immediately started work on his Master's degree in Marriage & Family Therapy at NIU, graduating in 1996. Ronn throroughly enjoyed his work as a Marriage & Family Therapist in a small practice in Rockford, IL before he and Pam again moved... this time to N. Scituate, RI.
It took well over a year to find a job in RI, but when he did it was a perfect fit. He worked for Child Intensive Services in Pawtucket & Central Falls, where he worked with children and then with their family system in a multi-cultural and economically challenging environment. And he thrived! He was well respected & beloved by his collegues. He retired from CIS in 2007. Upon retirement he went from part-time to full-time house-husband, clergy spouse, and served as coach, cheerleader, and as the major balancing force in Pam's life. Their love for one another was a dynamic and healing force in both of their lives.
A special thank you to all who offered up prayers for Ronn & Pam, for the support of the Episcopal community in the Diocese of Rhode Island - especially the Rt. Rev. W. Nicholas Knisely, the Rev. Canon Linda Grenz, the Rev. Stephanie Shoemaker, the Rev. Jim Frink, and the Rev. Susan Carpenter. And never to be under-estimated, thank you to the parish community of Trinity Church in N. Scituate, whose love & support has been life-giving and life-sustaining.
A huge thank you to Dr. Gary Katzman and Sue Emus, P.A. at Miriam Cardiology in Providence for their loving & faithful care all these years, and for service above and beyond... And with a very special note of thanks to all the amazing people at Philip Hulitar Hospice in Providence. You are people of such grace and compassion, and no words can express our deep gratitude and affection.
Visitation will be at Tucker Quinn Funeral Home at 643 Putnam Pike (Rte. 44) in Greenville, RI on Monday, March 10 from 4-7pm.
