Richard J. Murray Obituary

Richard J. Murray, 72, of North Kingstown passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Helga B. (Vahrenkampf) Murray for fifty years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late James M. and Agnes V. (Cunningham) Murray. He was a US Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He graduated from North Providence High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Bryant University. He worked for the Providence Journal for forty-two years before retiring as Senior Advertising Director. Richard enjoyed his retirement years spending time with his family, particularly his granddaughters. He enjoyed gardening, his daily morning walks, reading the Bible and lounging by his pool. He was an avid Patriots fan. He was an active communicant of St. Francis de Sales Parish. In addition to his wife, Richard is loved and missed by his three children, Eric Murray and his wife Tracy of Richmond, Brian Murray of North Kingstown and Nicole Kettelle and her husband Kyle of Coventry; two sisters, Joan Mandryk of MD and Maureen D’Andrea of Greenville; and three cherished grandchildren, Gwendolyn, Amelia, and Kierstin. He was the brother of the late Robert Murray. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 11:00am in St. Francis de Sales Church, 381 School Street, North Kingstown. Burial will be private and calling hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Francis de Sales Church or the Pet Refuge, 500 Stony Lane North Kingstown will be appreciated.
