Lois R. (Mortenson) O'Connor, 84, a Chepachet resident since 1970, passed away on Friday January 5, 2018. She was the wife of the late Robert J. O'Connor. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Gunnar Mortenson and the late Ella (Roberts) Mortenson. She received a bachelors degree in social work at Rhode Island College in 1975. Lois was a social worker for the State of Rhode Island DCYF for over twenty years, retiring in 2003. Lois was an avid lover of animals and nature. Her favorite pastime was watching the squirrels and birds from her living room window, while watching her great grandchildren play with toys at her feet.
Lois was the loving mother of Lynn Tucker and her husband, Gary Tucker, Susan Walsh and her husband Mark Walsh, Robert M. O'Connor and his fiancee, Robin Walters, and Kathy Ballou and her husband Bob Thomsen, all of Chepachet. She was the sister of Judith McCarthy and her husband John McCarthy, and Alice Rachlow, all of Harmony. Lois was the loving grandmother of eight grandchildren, Shaun Tucker, Jennifer Shields, Christy Long, Jeremie and Nicole Ballou, Ethan, Jake and Annie Walsh. She was also blessed with nine great grandchildren, Ava, Levi, and Jonas Tucker, Riley, Avery, and Chase Shields, and Madelyn, Gunnar, and Wyatt Long, who affectionately called her "Nana Boo Boo".
Lois will be remembered as a kind and generous woman who always put others before herself. She is treasured by all who knew her and she will be deeply missed. Lois' four children, eight grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren, all live very close by to her. She was always surrounded by her family who loved and cherished her. Lois' parting words for her family were always "Be Good" and never "Good bye".
Her funeral will be held Wednesday January 10, 2018 at 11:00 am in the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Home, 643 Putnam Pike (Rte 44) Greenville, RI. Burial will be in Acotes Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. Visitation: Tuesday 4-7 pm.
