Bienvenido "Bien" R. Garcia a lifelong Providence resident and community activist, 66, passed away Tuesday, January 19th, 9:47 PM at Rhode Island Hospital; he was the son of Rosa Garcia of the Dominican Republic.
He was a powerful voice for the Dominican community in the south-side of Providence, dedicating his time for the betterment of his people.Bienvenido was a social worker and a program manager at the Urban League of RI, a founding member of both Club Juan Pablo Durarte and the Dominican-American Association of RI, and a beloved figure amongst his peers and family.
Bien was a strong,intelligent and caring person, never hesitating to help anyone in need and remaining stubborn in the face of any challenge. His relentless pursuits for improving the well-being of his family and others will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his former spouse Carmen Torres, his 4 children; Tania A.Garcia, Rasheedah Y. Garcia, Joseph L. Garcia, Raisa E. Garcia-Diaz, his 7 grandchildren and his 3 siblings.
The wake will be held on Monday, January 25th from 4-7PM at St.Kevin's Church located at 333 Sandy Ln, Warwick, RI 02889.
The funeral will be held at St.Kevin’s at 10AM located at 333 sandy Ln, Warwick, RI
He will be laid to rest at Oakland cemetery located at 1569 Broad St, Cranston, RI 02905.
Following the guidelines of the RI Department of Health, social distancing and wearing of face masks are required.
